Community Investments

As a responsible business, ADCB invests in social and environmental organisations that promote social and environmental sustainability in communities where we conduct business. These relationships include the Red Crescent, Emirates Wildlife Society in association with World Wildlife Fund (EWS-WWF), charitable organisations supporting breast cancer awareness, and the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development. As well, ADCB's e-platforms (ATM network and online banking) facilitate donations from customers wishing to support various social and environmental sustainability initiatives.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nayhan Foundation Ramadan Campaign

As part of the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nayhan Foundation's Ramadan Campaign, ADCB contributed AED 500,000 in 2016 to help support this UAE-wide initiative to help some 600 local families across the UAE to gain a source of income from providing meals during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The funds were combined with those from other contributors to facilitate this business venture, buy supplies and arrange operational support, and enable each family to prepare approx. 100 meals per day during the Holy Month. Approximately 1.8 million meals were delivered at 105 locations across the UAE.

Zakat Fund

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, and obliges all Muslims who meet the necessary criteria of wealth to contribute a percentage of surplus cash to identified Muslim causes. ADCB's Islamic Banking Division helps Muslims meet their obligation through a strategic alliance with the Zakat Fund UAE, the federal authority which specializes in the acceptance of Zakat and spending it on the needy in order to achieve widespread social development for the individuals and families residing in the UAE and promote mutual helpfulness and integrity within the communities across the UAE. ADCB Islamic Banking created an internet banking platform to enable customers to pay their Zakat, and also contributed AED 100,000 towards Zakat in 2016.

ADCB is committed to supporting the UAE government's environmental sustainability goals. In 2016, ADCB and EWS-WWF facilitated a special workshop organised for our SME customers to help them understand how to create a more sustainable office by managing their energy and water consumption to reduce their environmental footprint and achieve significant financial savings. The workshop was timed to coincide with preparations for Earth Hour during the month of March. ADCB has supported Earth Hour since its inception.
